Eduardo De Fillippo (1900–1984) is generally regarded as the most representative figure of Southern Italian culture. Playwright, poet, actor, director and producer of both film and theatre, he was the author of sixty-three plays, and together with Pirandello, helped define the stature and range of twentieth-century Italian drama. His signature piece The Nativity Scene is here presented for the first time in English translation.
