This book examines the feminist theology and apophatic mysticism of Madame Guyon. In this book, Madame Guyon's theology is analyzed and placed in the tradition of apophatic mysticism. Reactions to her by Bishop Bossuet and Archbishop Fenelon are examined. Her major influences were St. Francis de Sales, St. Catherine of Siena, and St. Teresa of Avila, along with other saints of the Roman Catholic Church. Guyon encouraged others to seek a personal union with God and wrote about this spiritual process using the three main themes of pure love, personal annihilation, and a martyrdom of the Holy Spirit.
