Designed primarily for beginning naturalists and weekend explorers, this guide is a celebration of Missouri's natural diversity, from the Glaciated Plain to the Mississippi lowlands. Throughout the book, which is illustrated with maps and photos, emphasis is placed on the natural history of Missouri and on the interdependence of all life forms that inhabit our planet. Chapter I provides an overview of the Missouri landscape while Chapter II guides the reader through the seasons, directing him/her to the State's geologic, floral and faunal highlights. Appendix I gives directions to Missouri's nature preserves, Appendix II summarizes the region's natural history and Appendix III lists conservation organizations that are working to protect the State's natural heritage. A Bibliography and Index complete the guide.
