Dennis Morris was only fourteen when he went to London's Speakeasy club to capture photographs of Bob Marley and the Wailers. When Marley saw the young black fan anxiously clutching his camera, he invited him to take shots backstage as well as from the audience. Over the next eight years, up until Marley's death in 1981, the two developed a close friendship which allowed Morris to photograph the king of reggae at every major stage of his career.
Bob Marley: A Rebel Life profiles the man who became a personal friend to the photographer and a musical inspiration and spiritual avatar to millions. Morris's portraits could only have been taken by someone with his subject's complete trust. These pictures, together with Morris's personal reflections and reminiscences, offer an insight into Marley's life and music, his family background in Jamaica, his beliefs and his spirituality. This book is a rounded portrait of Bob Marley, the man and the performer, and a sincere tribute to a friend.
Since his initial meeting with Bob Marley, Dennis Morris has become one of the world's leading rock photographers. His celebrated shots of the Sex Pistols were taken during the period of his long personal and professional association with Marley.
