The 54 papers of this proceedings volume were first presented at the X-Ray Diagnostics of Astrophysical Plasmas workshop held in Cambridge, Mass. in November 2004. An initial paper presents an earlier autobiographical essay by Rolf Mewe (d.2004, formerly of SRON, Utrecht, the Netherlands). The papers are grouped into topics that include iron L- and K-shell diagnostics, helium-like transmissions, non-equilibrium plasma diagnostics, XAFs and charge exchange diagnostics, X-ray diagnostics for neutron stars, and X-ray spectral analysis of individual sources. In addition, six papers are devoted to future projects, including NASA's Constellation-X mission, progress and plans for the astrophysical plasma emission code, and recent developments of the CHIANTI database in the X-ray wavelength range. As the description promises, it provides an in-depth look at how FTIR works, without launching into detailed technical explanations of how to do the transforms (interesting, but not applicable to the text in question). Information is presented in a way that is clear and easy to follow (as I would expect from the CRC press!), and the explanations are simple enough that even those that are unfamiliar with how FTIR works can glean much from the text. It's not the first book I would recommend for those interested in FTIR, but it's a great resource for those working in the lab who need to look something up quickly.
