Voices of Ancient Egypt
Very similar to the later (and better) Good Masters! Sweet Ladies!: Voices from a Medieval Village. I would have much preferred the helpful and informative notes that flesh out what is alluded to in the poems were included within the body of the text rather than all together at the end.
Unfortunately, the upper class has been entirely excluded. While there are other books that provide information about royalty and how they lived, it's too bad we couldn't have a single book that included everyone.
Poetically, it seems to me that all the voices are the same (rather dull and prose-like). I'm not convinced that the poems are so essential, and if that is the case, other books might be more effective in conveying the information about the various people of Egypt.
Illustrations are likewise similar. Moser is an okay craftsman, but I see very little evidence of art here.
