The Genesis of the Chicago Renaissance: Theodore Dreiser, Langston Hughes, Richard Wright, and James T. Farrell Book

A wonderful introduction to many great authors, some well known, others very obscure. It's also well done thematically as it moves through different literary movements gracefully. If I could think of one critcism it would be that the bios of authors take a critical point of view sometimes and I don't think it's fair to the authors or the students. Even though it may be a widely held opinion that, for instance, Dos Passos never reached the heights of his earlier work after his political leanings changed, I don't think it's a textbook's place to include such a judgment. But still, even though my reading in this book for the semester is over, I fully intend to return to it in the future to explore even more of the greats contained within.
