Sexuality
O livro conta a história das batalhas ocorridas na década de 1750 para tomada das aldeias localizadas no atual sul do Brasil, próximo a fronteira com a Argentina, dominadas pelos JesuÃtas. É bem escrito, porém os personagens são subvididos em blocos de personalidade, no qual os portugueses são bons, os Ãndios explorados e os jesuÃtas representam o mal.
Acho estranho BasÃlio da Gama, que era jesuÃta, e fez história como o primeiro brasileiro a entrar na arcádia romana (sob influência dos membros da Companhia de Jesus), escrever um livro dessa forma, contudo acredito que tudo que ele queria era se salvar de um governo déspota, abrindo mão de seus ideais por conta disso. Logo, há durante toda a estória referências bajuladoras ao Marquês de Pombal (Conde de Oeiras, na época) e a seu irmão Francisco Xavier (governador do Maranhão e do Grão-Pará). Somado isso ao fato da constante demonização dos jesuÃtas cai amuito em meu conceito a leitura.
Ou seja, o artista no século XVIII, antes do inÃcio do perÃodo romântico, não tinha liberdade criativa, pois para sobreviver tinha de agradar a aristocracia, e isso fica explÃcito nesse poema épico.
Apesar disso, a morte de Sepé é um momento único narrado por BasÃlio da Gama.
