Race and Politics
A solid overview of Latinx and Asian American politics in the San Gabriel Valley where you will see some familiar names in today's political scene (Judy Chu, Xavier Becerra).
Contrary to the title, however, the book focuses predominantly on Asian American political issues (even more narrowly, Chinese and Japanese). Additionally, Saito does not do a very good job of deconstructing the term, "Latino." He interchangeably uses "Hispanic," "Latino," and "Mexican" never really giving these terms the attention and precision they deserve in a book that is all about ethnic, pan-ethnic, pan-racial politics.
