Simple text and pictures introduce rabbits and their lives on a farm.
The introductory note on the verso of the title page lets parents and educators know that this series was developed to meet the national science standards related to life science. Set up like real reference books this series entitled "On the Farm" features a table of contents, text and accompanying pictures, a list of new words called " Words to Know" that were used in the text and are now defined, and a page with a few references to books and the Fact Hound which will take kids to a variety of appropriate web sites to find out more on the topic. The final page contains an index/word list and notes the word count and early-intervention level. A rabbit with big floppy ears is depicted and a few body parts are labeled. Readers learn that rabbits live in hutches and the proper names for the male and female and what a rabbit needs to keep it healthy. Rabbit can be pets or they can be bred for their meat and fur. The word list gives as much information as the text. And the references to other books are reasonably current. A useful book for new readers. 2003, Pebble Books/Capstone, Ages 4 to 7.
