Life and Times of the Honeybee Book

Summary:
This book is a nonfiction book about honeybees and how they contribute to the earth. Honeybees help farmer by increasing their fruit and vegetable supply. They also live in dark places, which is why they live in hives. A hive is where colonies resider. There are bees called worker bees or "house bees" that are female, and they are the ones that make the honey. When worker bees leave the hive, they spend their last 3 weeks of life as field bees, who gather water, nectar, and pollen. The book also explains that the largest bee is the queen bee. Also, the 4 stages of a honeybee is explained, and the book details their growth process.

Evaluation:
I personally liked this book because it gave great detail on honeybees, what type of honeybees there are, how they grow, their stages, how each type of bee's job is different, and how they benefit the earth. This book was so incredibly detailed that it was somewhat overwhelming at times, but I thought that it would be great to teach to students during a science lesson.

Teaching Idea:
For younger grades, this book might be hard to just hand them and tell them to read it because of the book's detail. But I think that a teacher could use this book to go into detail about honeybees, and I think that this book would be better used over a couple days because I think that students would need to be taught the information in increments. An fun honeybee activity could go along with this book to make a lesson more interactive and exciting for students.
