Saggio molto interessante, analizza il fenomeno delle confraternite laiche spaziando su quasi tutto il Paese, sebbene alle volte sia un poco ripetitivo nel fornire esempi. Quel che più mi lascia perplesso, al di là della traduzione (la sintassi è spesso un poco involuta, fortunatamente senza mai pregiudicare sul serio la comprensione del testo, ma pare che sia stata una richiesta dell'autore stesso- chissà poi perché), è la decisione di pubblicare le note non a pié di pagina, come nell'edizione originale, ma al termine del volume. Una cosa decisamente scomoda, considerando la frequenza con la quale l'autore cita o commenta fuori dal testo.
