Gideon's lot Book

As if Gideon doesn't have enough trouble with the home grown criminals two Americans arrive in England. One is a psychopath who raped and murdered a young girl in New York and fled to England. The second is a known con man who has come to London to carry out a kidnaping scheme.
As well there is an investigation of some vice activity and about which the Yard is not sure of the guilt of the gentleman charged. Also some stolen watches appear to have been smuggled in to the UK but it is not clear who is responsible. Finally there appears to be an organized campaign of sabotage directed at British companies exporting to the US.
As usual not everything is settled by the end of the book. The last two cases are held over, possibly for the next book. Besides this activity there are two matters of the personal nature in this novel. The first is that Gideon's eldest daughter is having a very troublesome pregnancy and Kate has gone there to help out. The second is that Gideon has been offered the position of Assistant Commissioner, a position which has a larger pay packet and a better pension but is basically an administrative position rather than an investigative one. Both these issues will be resolved by the end of the book.
All in all an enjoyable read.
