Co-written by a well-respected and renowned expert in human nutrition and a professor in both animal and human nutrition, Feed Your Pet Right is the first book (that I know of) to analyze all aspects of pet food and the pet food industry. Topics covered include everything from standards and labeling to what pets need to what's in those cans and how it got there. You learn about how cats and dogs evolved to be our companions, their nutritional needs, and how closely intertwined the pet food industry is with the human food industry.
The authors take an objective view on all of this and while they occasionally interject opinions when they feel it is necessary, most of their reporting is simply factual information. Rather than being told "Brand A is better than Brand B," readers are allowed to make their own decisions about which foods/types of foods are best for their pets based on their own requirements and preferences. (Note this is only about dog and cat food, as they comprise most of the pet food industry.) This book is highly recommended for anyone who has a pet or is interested in nutrition.
