Introduces foods from different parts of the world, including sushi, sweet dates, and olive oil.
Part of the "Abre los Ojos y Aprende!" or "Eyeopeners" series, this slim volume briefly describes some of the traditional foods of: Morocco, Korea, the United States, Japan, Egypt, Mexico, China, the Dominican Republic, Greece and Ecuador. Each country is described with a short page of simple Spanish text facing a large color photo. A small world map at the top of the text page helps to locate the country being discussed. I'm not sure if it is definitely wrong, but it seems strange that the term "Estados Unidos" is used without the article "los". While visually appealing, the information presented is very superficial. The series is aimed at beginning or early readers in grades K through 3. It might be useful if simple Spanish overviews of culture and geography are needed. An index, bibliography and internet sites list are included. 2002, Blackbirch Press/Thomson Gale, Ages 5 to 9.
