Daimler-Benz In The Third Reich
I reread this for research for a novel I am working on, and I have family who used to live in Poletown. It is a fair, honest book. I have come across some criticism of it as "harsh," but don't really understand that: the book includes ample quotations (people do themselves in just fine, without Wylie needing to do it for them); loads of primary and secondary research; and a hefty references section. With GM now closing the plant that destroyed a neighborhood and cost many people (especially elder people) their lives, Wylie and the Poletown protesters who wanted nothing more than to keep the homes they owned are, once again, proven right. The worst that so many predicted would happen, did.
