On June 25, 1876, in the plains of southern Montana, Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer led the Seventh Cavalry into battle with a powerful force of Sioux and Cheyenne warriors. Not one member of Custer's battalion survived the battle, the greatest single victory of the Plains Indians in their war with the United States. Since that fateful day, historians have debated the tactics and strategy of both sides, exactly how the battle proceeded, and what Custer should have done differently.

Custer's Last Stand
A good general review of the "highlights" of the US Army's 40 year genocidal/ethnic cleansing campaign against the native tribes. Did you know that 14 CMoH's were awarded for gallantry at Wounded Knee? I'm not real sure how gunning down women, children and old men in frozen ravines in the dead of a Dakota winter can in any stretch of your imagination be called gallant (or heroic).
