Curiosities and Texts: The Culture of Collecting in Early Modern England
While interesting, I think Swann sometimes overstates her case by generalizing from a very small group of examples. I did find her discussion of commonplace books "collections" of texts interesting.
"To understand early modern English modes of selfhood and social identity, I have demonstrated, we must consider how individuals and groups used collections of physical objects as sites of self-fashioning." 194
