Colored Amazons: Crime, Violence, and Black Women in the City of Brotherly Love, 1880-1910 Book

So I unintentionally stumbled upon Colored Amazons by Kali Nicole Gross while reading A Bound Woman is a Dangerous Thing. I went into A Bound Woman totally unaware that it was a poetry collection. No idea. I'm not all that into poetry, so while I read it, I can't really offer any feedback. BUT I did see Colored Amazons referenced throughout the collection and was super intrigued, so I snagged a used copy for a few dollars and patiently waited for it to arrive. This book was so unique, and unfortunately one of the only books on its topic. The book discusses the criminalization of Black women in the US following the civil war, and its content is still super relevant today. The writing was super clear and easy to understand (particularly for an academic book), and it was an overall pleasant read. I'll leave you with the book's final quote: "Black women today may not be trapped between starvation and crime; yet black women's continued economic and social disenfranchisement as well as their unequal access to education operate as de facto barriers to better employment, housing, and overall social stability."
