Around the World with LBJ: My Wild Ride as Air Force One Pilot, White House Aide, and Personal Confidant Book

I picked up this book because I'm fascinated by the personality and life of President Lyndon B. Johnson and I hoped that the author would shed some additional light on both. What a disappointment. The author was the pilot of Air Force One and later also served as Johnson's Military Aide in the White House. While there were some interesting stories about Johnson and the people around him, this book is really a love letter by the author to himself. And that got old fast. I think that this quote says it all: "I was a one-man army in service to LBJ and my country. Today it might take as many as 100 people to perform the myriad White House jobs that I held." Wow. No shrinking violet there. Not my favorite memoir of the Johnson years.
