Up on Daddy's shoulders,
I'm the happiest kid in the world.
Feeling taller than his big brother, his house, and the giraffes at the zoo, a little boy spends the day on his daddy's shoulders as they go for a walk around their neighborhood.
Matt Berry's sweet story of a little boy and his daddy is brought to life by Lucy Corvino's classic, vivid illustrations.

Barbara L. Talcroft - Children's Literature

This exuberant book, full of bright greens and yellows and curving lines, captures a boy's feelings of exhilaration as he rides his father's shoulders out of the house, through the town, and home again. From his perch he is bigger than his brother, bigger than his grandfather, and just as tall as their house. He and Daddy hike through the woods, climb and descend a hill, then visit the zoo (where a giraffe can stretch its tongue for a lick of the boy's ice cream cone) and a carnival where the boy tops the stilt walker. Flying home over hills and clouds, he reaches for the stars and moon as night falls and Daddy deposits him in the top bunk of his bed. The text and especially Corvino's undulating pictures successfully convey the boy's sense of soaring and empowerment through simple words and the use of unexpected perspectives. Even without any conversation between father and son, young readers will sense the closeness of the two. And what a wonderful gift for Father's Day or a father's birthday! 2006, Cartwheel/Scholastic, Ages 2 to 6.
