New Lands, New Men: America and the Second Great Age of Discovery
Good, not great, which is why it rates a 3 on Goodreads, where 3 is "I liked it", which means above average for books. I presume most of us here pick above average books to read.
Goetzmann's connecting thesis is that these explorations of what became USA, and other parts of the world, were largely scientific, and I think he over-reaches in that. It is a good overview of USAn exploration, and I did enjoy that.
