Spawn is a 1992 monthly comic book series created by Todd McFarlane and published by Image Comics. The series has spun off several other comics, including Angela, Curse of the Spawn and Sam & Twitch, as well as television, film and merchandise. The story follows Albert "Al" Simmons, a CIA agent who is murdered in duty, and five years after his death, returns to life as the demonic vigilante known as Spawn. While a strange assailant stalks the city, ripping out human hearts, another otherworldly being arrives. As his mind reels, our tortured hero remembers that he struck a deal with the devil in order to return to his beloved wife. Spawn has been a continuing comic book series for well over 300 issues and still keeps going. It is a huge success and it is great fun to read.
