Good straight forward read covering his life up to 70th birthday.Unfortunately no pictures at all in the paperback version of either him,his family or paintings. Also I'm still no wiser as to the ultimate sources of his genius - although how a man exhibits genius is a mysterious process. He had a solid working class background, left school at 14,worked and by chance found people who guided him so he ended up being cultured, designing opera sets, painting unique pictures etc.Still a mystery.Would he have done even better with a privileged background - probably not !I guess it must be having a confidence in your ability, nurtured by those who saw something in you

Read this as an audio book so that may have helped determine its rating as the reading was quite dated and abridged. This is the authorised biography of famous Australian artist of the Ned Kelly paintings and others
