A solid book on correlation! Chen, Popovich give tons of examples and explanations for each correlation test. They also do a very good job of defining variables in a straight forward manner. Relative to other books on correlation, I find this one to be really designed for someone who is trying to understand these measurements from a fundemental, intuitive basis. I like that he lays out Pearson correlation, how it is used, when to use it in what manner, and when to not use it. He also provides clear language on when one can get confused using Pearson correlation incorrectly. The book provides at the end a mix of other tests that can get you from point a to point b. I like that he uses examples from a variety of disciplines to help the reader along. The examples are general enough that a person from any discipline can understand them. He also gives several examples of data tables with the correlation calculations worked (filling in the appropriate numbers, just after the equation). He then clearly states which numbers are given, which are calculated, and where you need to look in the appendix or otherwise to find the numbers that are given. As obvious as this sounds, other books often don't do this.

I really like it because it gives clear intuition to the concepts. Great book for an introduction although the formal mathematics definitions are not maintained.
