Review # 1 was written on 2018-05-31 00:00:00 Heinz Weidenbrueck Heart breaking in many ways, but some relief that this sequel to the original masterpiece (study) on Laye is not so popular in Africa. For most, Laye's legacy is very much intact. Certainly his first book, The African Child, is very authentic and was certainly written by him. Generally one can ponder on other factors like editing, over-editing, ghost writing etc. Would Laye really have allowed his name to be put on works he did not write, or perhaps wrote limited swathes of? Laye is dead now and we might never know the real truth. By the way, the excellent researcher and writer, author Adele King is gone too...

Review # 2 was written on 2014-11-06 00:00:00 David Adaskin A controversial work...it is difficult to accept that this great distinguished author (camara Laye) might not really have written a classic like The radiance of the King; then how is it that the African ambience is so convincingly enacted in the work despite the kafkaesque background? Adele King as usual does her research very well - but one is still left with lingering feeling of disbelief; even anguish...
