Review # 1 was written on 2021-02-22 00:00:00 Constance Dangelo The book is not just the love the author feels for Spanish, providing lots of curious information; not just that genetic code inserted in our linguistic ability which enables us to immediately understand expressions we never heard before from other Spanish dialects. The book is full of curiosities about the phenomenon of language itself. A funny chapter was that describing how the Vatican manages to adapt Latin to modern life, creating words for modern needs (TV, motorcycle) from the millenary resources natural in that language.

Review # 2 was written on 2008-06-24 00:00:00 Melanie Sharpe Disfruté mucho la lectura de este ensayo. Grijelmo tiene un estilo ameno y humorístico, que refleja en todo momento su amor por el idioma. Comparto ese amor. Creo en el español, creo en que la corrección no es asunto de capricho sino de coherencia y entendimiento. Igual que al autor, me preocupan las ambigüedades promovidas por la publicidad, los discursos políticos y los medios de comunicación. El ensayo no se limita a describir la situación crítica del idioma español, sino que además propone medidas para su cuidado.
