Obviously no one will like or read this book who is not from Iowa and, perhaps, who has not the slightest interest in sports. I meet both those qualifications, not to mention the fact that my grandfather was on the board of control for eight years and my father currently works for the Iowa High School Athletic Association. I liked this book - it has some great moments, particularly chapter five's review of some of the greatest Iowa sports moments. On the whole, however, it was a bit disappointing for the simple fact that it just got too long. I think Chuck Offenburger is a fine writer, but he could have benefitted from an editor in this book. Much of the text could have been omitted so that the great parts (and there are many) would not get lost.

This is a great book and should be required reading for anyone interested in the Vietnam war.
