Review # 1 was written on 2012-08-20 00:00:00 Craig Elhart If you're a Freudian, you'll love this book which examines the various situations, characters, and symbols used by Alfred Hitchcock. Even though I don't buy into all of Freud, I found the book to be interesting. At the very least, it collects and puts into categories Hitchcock's motifs; then you can decide for yourself the meaning Hitchcock intended. |
Review # 2 was written on 2020-06-13 00:00:00 Les Dotson I'm nearly five months into a year long commitment to watch only pictures directed by women. I wish I had read this back in January. Very insightful both historically and globally. Covers everything from Alice Guy-Blanche to Chantal Akerman to the women filmmakers of the Iranian New Wave and much much more. It's short yet concise, academic yet engaging. |
