Review # 1 was written on 2020-06-12 00:00:00 Stuart Sato Each poem is paired with a piece of art, that means that the feel of the illustrations varies dramatically from poem to poem. The most shocking was about a young boy on a long stay in a different town and how he was called "nigger" one day by a white boy his age and how that's all he remembers about that visit. My favorite was the last poem "Human Family" by Maya Angelou. She points out we're all different, but that we all have lots in common. |
Review # 2 was written on 2018-11-29 00:00:00 Brenda Fredette In this book, my favorite poem is: My People, by Langston Hughes: "The night is beautiful, So the faces of my people. The stars are beautiful. So the eyes of my people. Beautiful, also, is the sun. Beautiful, also, are the souls of my people." The art called "Into Bondage" by Aaron Douglas took my breath away. |
