Review # 1 was written on 2010-05-15 00:00:00 Victor Lebron Informative for an small uni assingment, but weakly written (there were a lot of repetitions and even some grammar mistakes!!), I didn't like it very much. I mean, Abraham Lincoln sounds like such a great persona that he deserved so much more. There were a lot of irrelevant facts and not so many about him and his life, although there were a few ilustrative ones. So, well, it served the function I needed it for and it was brief, but it didn't satisfy me personally. |
Review # 2 was written on 2014-07-13 00:00:00 Jim Renfro This is an interesting analysis of the Nullification Crisis of 1832-33, but it is written in a rather dry academic style that makes it slow going. I particularly liked Ellis' discussion of how nullification (the idea that any state, based on its sovereignty, may nullify - or refuse to acknowledge - any law passed by the federal government) fits in with various theories of states' rights. He also points out how the convergence of nullification and states' rights theories with efforts to justify slavery helped bring on the Civil War. |
