Review # 1 was written on 2015-05-03 00:00:00 Rene Maradiaga Relata con franqueza y simplicidad admirables su experiencia profesional, durante 40 años dirigió la editorial Lumen, en 1996, vendió a la multinacional Bertelsmann, a través de Random House Mondadori, el 80%. Se jubiló y empieza a escribir sus magníficos libros. También, surgen sus amores, su acercamiento a los escritores como Ana María Matute, Camilo José Cela o Umberto Eco, otros profesionales del sector, como Carmen Barcel, Carlos Barrall..., y a todos los representa con su grandeza y defectos. Confiesa que es bisexual, su ludopatía, sus relaciones extraconyugales... Hace una mirada crítica de sí misma, valiente y desgarradora. Lo hace cuando ya poco tenía que perder: "A los setenta y tres años muchas cosas han dejado de importarme", declaró Tusquets. Es un gran libro de memorias y su lectura es enriquecedora.

Review # 2 was written on 2010-07-23 00:00:00 Mark Phillips The sequel to Habiamos Ganado la Guerra tells the story of how Esther Tusquets made a success of Lumen, the Catalan publisher ofl the early works of Umberto Eco and later works of Garcia Marquez and Vargas Llosa despite being a full fledged member of the sexual revolution of Spain in the seventies. How did she find the time? An aside: I had never heard of Tusquets despite having named a dog Lumen - we were looking for an L name and someone happened to be reading one of her books. Anyway, Tusquets knew everything and everyone - her anecdotes throw light on members of the artistocracy and as well as writers and intellectuals. You do come away from the book, however, feeling that there is something not quite right about the vieja dama indigna; she is a little too much at times.
