Review # 1 was written on 2018-06-22 00:00:00 Mark Zaharis Starlog was a science fiction magazine that gave its readers news, interviews and insights into what's happening in the genre at the time. The main focus was movies and television, but other media like books were also featured. Starlog had the great idea to create a set of photobooks to chronicle certain aspects of science fiction. This is one of those books, and it focuses on aliens. So what you are getting is a magazine that has tons of little entries on hundreds of movies and TV shows featuring aliens, from silent films all the way to the late 70's when Star Wars was first released. The beauty of this guide is how many entries are from shows that have long been forgotten. You don't get a whole lot of insight on these aliens, and most of the entries are merely plot synopsis for the movie or show they are on. However you do get a photo for just about every one of the aliens mentioned, and a little insight as well. If you are looking for a comprehensive description or background on all these aliens this book isn't going to do it. If you want to know about many obscure shows and movies out there with aliens this is your ticket to ride. |
Review # 2 was written on 2021-08-25 00:00:00 Mitchell Messer From back in the day when Starlog Magazine was king. Part of a series of photo guides chronicling various aspects of science fiction film and television like special effects, space weapons, spaceships, robots, and so on. This particular guide delves into and focuses on sci-fi movies with aliens and monsters from other worlds. Very useful and fun. Brings back lots of memories. |
