A friend, an extremely thoughtful financial analyst, recommended to me this series of books in 2006, of which this is the third and final edition. This series of books is among a small handful of books to which I can directly attribute major financial profits in the markets. Believing that a financial crisis of epic proportion was looming over us, in 2006 we sought out every piece of relevant financial disaster literature we could find. Here we were not disappointed. The series contains interviews with contemporaries of every major global financial disaster through the date of its publication. I know of nowhere else for you to read actual newspaper articles describing events of the day and the whole anthology of financial crisis data and thinking. This series, along with Charles Kindleberger's "Manias, Panics and Crashes" are texts worthy of a Crash 101 curriculum. I strongly recommend you read Kindleberger first then proceed to this insightful series.

Valuable quotes: “Even a dog distinguishes between being stumbled over and being kicked.” “Man's mind, once stretched by an idea, never regains its original shape.” “The life of the law has not been logic; it has been experiencing.” This book is an analysis of the law and the building of what may be called a civilized society. Laws have to be subject to precision to have ambiguous laws leads to trouble and chaos. Oliver traces the history of criminal law, fraud, liability, the common good, property, etc... Old English can be difficult to read, but it is worth the read. Anyone who is interested in law this would be one book I would recommend to become familiar with. If you are not inserted in reading all of it, you can read the chapter on criminal and the chapter on property both chapters, in my opinion, are the best!
