A great introduction to the philosophy of film. As an introductory book it is well grounded showing many sides of each issue despite being (for my tastes) a bit long winded on each. As a book on the philosophy of film I wish Carroll had devoted some time to more specific issues, since I think he has published many great articles in the field on various subjects. However, that would defeat the purpose.

Too technical, especially toward the end, for laymen.
