A fairly technical and slightly dated (it was published in the later 1990s) collection of papers and essays germane to ecosystem stewardship, focused towards students in ecosystem management and professionals in the field. Some of the papers are very interesting, but you'll need a decent background in ecosystem science or a related field to follow everything, or otherwise, you'll learn from this book itself the basic jargon and skills at play. Again, this is not a philosophical book overall: it's a pragmatic overview of how various techniques have been useful in the stewardship of ecosystems on public and private lands. As is the case with most writing by scientists, some papers are better-written than others, by far. I would recommend this book therefore to people seriously interested in ecosystem stewardship whether or not they're working in (or students of) the field. For the person looking more towards a philosophical book though, this is not the best place to start. For students and professionals, it's also essential to keep in mind the data involved and other works cited may easily be out of date now.

This is a book about Pittsburgh from the perspective of a photographer of color beginning in the early 1940's. Interesting and balanced. Good photographer as well.
