Review # 1 was written on 2014-03-17 00:00:00 Xion Zeffir I've heard great things about Bern from the architect Christopher Alexander. So I expected to see or read more along the same lines. But this book is the opposite of Christopher Alexander. Who knew I had strong opinions about architecture, but apparently I do. I hate many of the buildings highlighted in this book as impersonal, uninviting, precious, or in the case of the stairwell coming down in the middle of the street, downright stupid. Perhaps it's unfair to rate the book lowly when it's the architecture that I dislike. And after all it does make for some great conversation/discussion. ... |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-07-18 00:00:00 Robin Foster There are some really cool projects in this book. Definitely worth checking out is the Federal building by Morphosis and the research center they have planned for Masdar city. Many projects are speculative (i.e. unbuilt) but some might be well on their way to being built. It's good to see what other architects around the world are doing, there are many projects by European architects that I've never heard before. Great way to come across them! |
