Review # 1 was written on 2016-12-25 00:00:00 Randy Simpson A foundational introduction to the subject matter. Many details are either omitted or glossed over. For example no connection is made between the fall of the Eastern Roman Empire and the birth of the Renaissance.

Review # 2 was written on 2017-08-31 00:00:00 Julie Huffman This "historic compendium" is moderately interesting in terms of its history and its content about art. Still, I'd probably recommend something else for either distinct purpose. More recent art history texts are surely more up to date and omit little of that which was observed in 1899. The illustrations do provide a solid cross-section of the forms and styles from past periods.
