This book is terrible. To get the good parts out of the way: It is concise, which is always a good thing. Now for the bad parts: A lot of important content is simply not there. After chapter 5, Neumann problems are mentioned exactly once, both in a highly theoretical manner, without an example, and the other is a useful result. All examples are extremely Dirichlet-specific. While I'm not expecting a book to hold my hand through every problem, I do expect it to lead me somewhere, where I can actually solve problems. It could have been done in the way: "If you have Neumann conditions instead, the problem changes here and the first step to solving it is...". A few lines would have been plenty, they are just not there. Using this book, I can solve some very specific problems, but when the conditions change, this book becomes utterly useless. Compared to a semester long introductory class, this books simply lacks content, which should be there to actually enable the reader to solve problems (without long searches). Had it been called "Partial differential equations: An introduction to Dirichlet problems", it would have been an honest title (and with a higher rating). To Strauss: I want my money back.
