I checked this out from the Spokane Public Library a few days ago. It is a great read, especially for those whith limited reading time. It is a collection of articles from Guitar Player Magazine. Much of the focus, however, is on the lives of the featured Bluesmen, not the technicalities of their guitar playing. Therefore, it is a must read for anyone interested in the roots of American music. The stories are often tragic, giving insight into the truly "Horatio Alger" journeys of these men who traveled from plantation to production studio. The reader's interest, insight, and respect are piqued from pouring over the pages of this wonderful collection. The failure of this book is obvious: the focus is on the "men" of the blues. Not a single blueswoman is featured. There are many which should be studied: Etta James, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Ma Rainey, Ida Cox, Koko Taylor, Alberta Hunter, Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams, etc. It is truly a shame that another addition has not yet been published covering the important influence of the blueswomen.

Great information - a little dry on the writing - but excellent at breaking the processes down.
