Review # 1 was written on 2015-09-15 00:00:00 Kerri Hayes The writing is pretty technical but not impossible. Each chapter is like a series of summaries taken from academic articles. That style worked for me because I really like birds and woodpeckers and am not put off by journal-style graphs or detailed descriptions the biomechanics of climbing a tree (actually that part is really cool). Much of the book is objective reporting of the ecology of the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker, which is very informative in general and also piecing together why this species is in trouble and how to manage it. The last few chapters focus on the management, legislation, and legal battles which is a vital part of the story but much more discouraging. |
