As this book is a compilation of papers related to synthetic cognition, perception, attention, phenomology, and robot consciousness, it is a dense read. I found lots of fascinating insights in it, but it ain't a Malcom Gladwell style pop-sic book. But while it is highly technical, there are enough conceptual descriptions to inform a lay-person about state of the art in artificial consciousness (even if published in 2007, it still seems highly relevant). I will have to work through this book again some time, as the first read has had me overwhelmed - but the topic and the various aspect described seem highly fascinating to me, as AI and robotics move toward ever more capabilities (leading to the broad worry about sentient machines). This book explains how they might work in detail.
