Review # 1 was written on 2012-03-09 00:00:00 Mary Gregor This is a large-format board book with flaps and a wheel to turn. This is very well done for this kind of interactive book. The complete board format is perfect--board pages and cover, rather than standard hardcover binding (or worse yet, puffy hardcover-like binding) with board pages, which sometimes is done. There are enough flaps to hold attention, but not too many to make it usable for an interactive addition to a storytime program. The theme (seasons) is not only quite useful but also well-executed, and some of the interactive elements (flaps and wheel) have useful labels, such as "horse and foal" next to that image under the flap that is the barn door. Lucy Cousins is always a delight, and so often gets it right. This is a nice example of that. There are plenty of board/picture book board books produced with flaps and wheels and so forth, but they usually come off as an afterthought to a book that is not in and of itself especially well-done. Recommended!

Review # 2 was written on 2011-07-15 00:00:00 Mark Kauffman Natalie really likes Maisy right now. She liked this one just as a regular book when I read it to her at lunch, and then later when she got to play with all the interactive parts. We were supper impressed that she knew a lot of the items on the wheels (carrot, pumpkin, snake, goldfish, boot, and crab. She called the octopus a flower more than once).
