Review # 1 was written on 2008-04-30 00:00:00 Michael Jamison This is an excellent overview of Judaism. There are three parts, more or less. The first part, and most of the book, is just about Jewish history from its conception to "modern" day. It's not entirely modern as it doesn't cover LGBTQ+ Jews or Jews who are not of European descent -- which are areas the course I took that used this as a textbook talked about as well as all this. Then, there are also sections about beliefs and practices. The chapters are rather short and have a lot of primary or secondary sources quoted as needed, plus there's a list of suggested readings for more information for every chapter. |
