This book may have been above my head. As the blurb says, the author analyzes four artists: Donatello, Rembrandt, Chardin, and Hogarth, and how they used perspective, color, theme and subjects to provoke the viewer's mind to see, not only the picture, but also the intent of the artist, through the means and mediums the artist used. I was able to understand some of it, some was more appropriate for a graduate art student. However, what I was able to understand, was very interesting. I especially enjoyed reading about Hogarth, to whose work I had not paid much attention. How the eye and mind work together to interpret and process information has always fascinated me and this book was certainly a valuable resource in that endeavor.

I read this book because I wanted to understand strategies for teaching a highly subjective discipline. While I can't evaluate this book based on how well the art strategies work (I am not an art teacher), I can say it has had a profound impact on how I am approaching teaching others more subjective skills.
