Cooks who have grown accustomed to either Le Creuset or Staub enameled cast-iron cookware are both fully converted and evangelistic about its merits. Once a nice set of large and small French ovens, au gratin pans and casseroles has been assembled, the urge to own more can be satisfied by the purchase of mini-cocottes. Available in a range of baked-on colours, these 300 ml individual-serving little pots go directly from the oven to the table (on a folded serviette to prevent them from skidding about the plate). The recipes offered in this little book are of variable utility. Some offer little more than an excuse to use these as very expensive individual serving dishes, e.g. the scrambled eggs with herbs, salmon and cream cheese. Others are innovative and useful, e.g. the chicken pot pies and the spinach soufflés. After paying fifteen dollars for this book, I learned that it is sometimes given away by kitchen shops to people who buy enough of the little cocottes. No matter; it is a worthwhile addition to the library of anyone with these lovely mini-pots in which to cook and present their food.

I love recipes for my slow cooker, but this cookbook is quite frustrating. It is set up by readers submitting their recipes. There are multiple recipes of the same kind, but different ways and ingredients. There are no pictures to show what your food is going to look like after cooking....and with a slow cooker I think that is important because people don't really want to eat something that looks like the dogs dinner. This book seemed like a precursor to the website Allrecipes, but without the pictures and ratings of people that have made the recipe.
