Review # 1 was written on 2016-07-08 00:00:00 Michael Peters C. Brian Kelly collects the weird and wacky stories, as well as the touching and poignant, from the 4 years of the American Civil War. From stories that involve well-known figures such as Lincoln, Grant, and Lee to stories that involve the unsung heroes and heroines of the war, this collection gives a look at the parts of the Civil War that don't make it into the history books. I am fascinated by the Civil War and the parts played by everyday, average people. I was a tad bit disappointed by this book as it did have a strong focus on the well-known figures of the Civil War, albeit their less well-known stories, but still not exactly what I was looking for. The book is still great in its own right and I learned a lot I did not know before. If you are a Civil War enthusiast, you will probably enjoy this book and the random trivia you will get out of it. |
Review # 2 was written on 2013-12-29 00:00:00 JACK GENSER Fascinating stories, mysteries, oddities and bits of information about this war that swept over the states from 1861-1865. Broken down into 7 main parts with small sections or several stories each only 1-7 pages long made it easy to pick up without losing trian of thought if left for a while. I learned a lot about little things in the Civil War, and it was easy to read- though 400 pgs total! |
