Review # 1 was written on 2011-04-10 00:00:00 Blala Dada This is a great book to see some of the most influential names in early to mid twentieth century photography discuss their work and give insight into the process during their careers. The breadth of photography covered is really great. The interviews come in different lengths and various detail. Whether this is due a reflection on the photographer, I am unsure, but its makes this volume a delight to read as you can dip into short or long interviews depending on your mood. It is also revealing that the motivations and philosophies of each artist can be vastly different, as well as the egos. If you are interested in photographic history and the men and women that were instrumental in the molding of this art form, this is a fascinating book. |
Review # 2 was written on 2009-08-26 00:00:00 Nicholas Serrano There are too many perfunctory questions like "How did you get interested in photography?" which will not always give you an answer that is very interesting. The best was Imogen Cunningham who said that too many people have asked her that question! Much depends upon the personality of the photographer, which granted, one cannot really separate from the work... but have a conversation with them, don't ask them questions which can sometimes be answered in a single sentence! |
