Review # 1 was written on 2017-03-20 00:00:00 Troy Lane Hesselrode Once more I am inspired! Of course, it'll be a case of once more I don't get around to make anything beautiful, let alone actually learning the skills to properly make a quilt. But the sheer artistry of these fabulous quilts is an inspiration in itself. Each page has a quilt, along with the artist, the dimensions, the fabrics used, and a couple of sentences from the artist about his/her own inspiration (predominantly "her", though I think I noticed one or two masculine names). This is a book to be looked at again and again. |
Review # 2 was written on 2015-07-20 00:00:00 Dan Otoshi This book is a gallery of incredible quilts rather than a how to despite the subtitle of "inspiration." There are a few instructions to give you an idea about some of the techniques, but they're more for someone either very skilled or someone curious about how the creator got that effect. There is a huge range of quilts and techniques here from fabric painting to pleated blocks, from realistic portraits to abstract shapes, from quilts pieced similarly to traditional blocks to twisted three dimensional columns. I checked out a couple of books with "art quilts" at the same time as this, and those just don't compare. This is true art and shows how fabric, thread, and some handy skills can be worked by a skilled hand into something beautiful and interesting. |
