Review # 1 was written on 2016-04-10 00:00:00 Brian Swanson Collins' text contends conflict theory is the most lucrative sociological perspective because it sets social phenomenology into a historical context. It proposes to build on Weber's detached conflict approach to stratification and organizations, treating any larger historical patterns as an historicist combination of these elements. As such, it finds structure to be nothing more than the interaction of men (or groups) who attempt to negotiate an advantageous subjective reality, the variables of which are found in the interactive situation. |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-04-10 00:00:00 Tom Ben A really well written introduction to Sociology. I would recommend it just for the fact that, because it's a general survey of Sociology, it moves along quickly and only briefly touches on a wide variety of subjects. It doesn't bog down into any theoretical perspectives or exhaustive explanations of certain topics so it stays fresh and interesting throughout. |
